Yumi is the Japanese word for an archery bow andrefers to the continuous curved brace detail thatsweeps from the top of the backrest down to meetthe front legs, holding the chair together the way astrung bow holds its tension. A dining chair withoutarms, Yumi's structure is fully legible. AnotherYamakawa original, it is brought into productionafter Gabriel Tan's careful work of contemporisationthat fully respects the original design. Retainingthe eloquent curves that give it the graphic qualitythat defines Yamakawa's approach to metalwork,the generous seat and backrest are woven innatural black rattan in a tight but still open weave,allowing light to pass through it, offering Yumi avisual lightness.
